Holy Week 2018 - A week to remember

Two Christian congregations come together around the Cross of Jesus Christ and remember Him 

Sunday 25th March  10.15am Palm Sunday Eucharist, St Michael’s

                                  10.30am Holy Communion, St John’s. Preacher: Bishop Mark Davies

                                    6.30pm A service of prayer and dedication, at St Michael’s, with Bishop Mark Davies

Monday 26th March   6.30pm Share a meal together and ‘Meet the Bishop’ at  the Roebuck Inn (in the upstairs function room): open to all adults. Join us as you order a meal from the bar (it’s ‘2 for 1’ night, so bring a friend — or find someone there and make a friend!) from 6.30pm, and around 8pm we hear from the Bishop of Middleton. If you can’t make the meal, come and join in around 8pm.

Tuesday 27th March  7.30pm  A service of wholeness and healing at St Michael’s, with Bishop Mark Davies and

members of St Michael’s and St John’s congregations

Wednesday 28th March 2.00pm  A Bible Study for Holy Week at St John’s, with Bishop Mark Davies

Thursday 29th March 10.15am Maundy Thursday liturgy and foot washing, at St Michael’s

7.00pm A Christian celebration of Passover, at St John’s (NB This includes a ‘bring-and-share’ meal: you need to sign up in advance to take part).

Good Friday (30th March) 10.15am Family worship for Good Friday, St Michael’s

                                       1.00pm Gathering at St John’s, followed by a walk of witness to St Michael’s, via The Ark and outside Flixton House

                                       2.00pm An Hour at the Cross, St Michael’s

                                       7.30pm ‘God Friday’ — an audio-visual Good Friday meditation, St John’s  

Saturday 31st March     8.00pm Easter Vigil, St Michael’s

Easter Sunday (1st April) 10.15am Easter Eucharist, St Michael’s

                                      10.30am Easter Day Family Communion, St John’s

Bishop Mark Davies, Bishop of Middleton

Mark Davies is the Bishop of Middleton and area bishop for our part of the Manchester diocese. He was born in 1962 and graduated from the College of Ripon and York St John in 1985, and the College of the Resurrection, Mirfield, Yorkshire, in 1989. He worked in Barnsley and Hemsworth, and moved from Yorkshire to serve as Archdeacon of Rochdale in 2006. When he became Bishop of Middleton two years later, he was the youngest bishop in the Church of England.
